Brothers and Sisters, I am putting together an event to raise money for the CPO Scholarship Fund. If you don't know of the program, check out their site www.cposf.org. It's Chiefs helping Chiefs. That's exactly what I'm planning. Chiefs raising donations to ensure this programs continued support. If you know me, you know that me and my bike are almost inseparable. I don't want to exclude those who don't ride though. That said, here's my proposal: A "trip" to Little River Canyon National Preserve, http://www.nps.gov/liri/ , and Lookout Mountain, http://www.tourdekalb.com/ outside of Fort Payne, AL. I like to dream big also so this trip is meant for all Chiefs in the region (GA, AL, TN, FL, etc). The agenda should go like this: Fri: Depart command and head up 400 (approx) miles to the Camp Site. Meet with other Messes. Sat/Sun: Group Ride through the canyon (see attached map) and area displaying CPO Mess Colors. Friendly Competition through out the different Messes (Flag Football, horse shoes, etc). Sun/Mon: Continue on having fun / Return home. There are plenty of things to do here other than just riding a motorcycle. There's hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, swimming, rock climbing or just plain relaxation. The idea here is to link up with the other Messes through the southeast and all meet at once to raising money for the CPOSF. Picture hundreds of Chiefs from well over a dozen Messes gathered together for one cause, over one weekend, and having one hell of time. Don't you want to be a part of that? Money would come from the ride cost, 50/50s, raffles, donations, etc. In my head right now, I'm looking at contacting NavyChief.com, AAFES/NEX, MWR/ITT, and others for prizes and giveaways. Also, for at least one of the raffles would be the airbag jacket or vest, http://www.impactjackets.com/. Trucks with trailers would be joining the venture for breakdowns and also for those who'd prefer not to ride that far. As for the timeframe; I'm looking at June this way we genuines can have some peace before the upcoming season. Doing this during the summer also provides those with children greater flexibility. The June timeframe also goes back to CPO history. 01 June 1776 Cook's Mate Wasbie was promoted to Chief Cook and 01 June 1958 was the birth of SCPO and MCPO. As you can tell, there is a lot to be done, and I will be needing some help. Nothing is set in stone yet as I'm just getting started. I'll take all the help I can get along with ideas. If you are interested, reply to me only IOT not spam everyone.
