What we need to is to come together as mess and do one or all of the following:

1.                            Use the club.  The cost of running the club is about $650.00 a week (this does not include utilities).  Tracking for the three months ending the first week in June shows only one week that the bar made a profit. There are two issues causing the money to be so low.  The first is use, it is just not there.  The second is the prices, they are too low.   The bottom line is 15 patrons could make it profitable to stay open if the beer is $2.00 for a draft, it would take 50 patrons at $1.00 per draft.

2.                            Participation and feedback is crucial!  I can tell you it is hard for me to have my seven meetings a month at the club at 1400 (hint the bar opens at 1500) but it is good for business, so it is good for the Chiefs. The club making money is not the best part, the best part is the sidebar conversations where Chiefs communicate and collectively solve real issues for our Sailors.

3.                            Decide if we, as the Chief Mess, want to have the club (bar) the way it is operated for us at Lighthouse Point?  Or if we want to move to the Crows Nest on the second floor of the Marina?  To some extent this will be decided by the amount of participation during the month of July (I do need to here the feedback on what Chiefs want as well).  The second decision we need feedback on is;  Do we want to change to a closed mess like CID is doing with the CPO MESS there?

4.                            Evaluate Service.  This is very important. We need good feedback on the service, which you only can give if you use the club during the 30 day trial in July. I know there are some who want MWR to take the Club over from SODEXO, this is not about that. The fact is MWR and SODEXO are trying very hard to show us they can give the Chiefs the service we want.  The bottom line is, if we do not use the Club during this time, the message we will sending is, no matter what they do, we will not use the CPO club enough for it to make a profit.

5.                            Support the rules. There has a lack of service and support at the club for a long time as you would expect as Chief.  If they will not provide it for us, we will come up with something that works. We can and will get new/more items added to our service whatever the business can support. We can not compete with the business inside the club while they providing us the service.  We are not opening the kitchen at this point. However, if we did want the kitchen open in the future, an example could be a Steak Night every Thursday.  What is needed for this to work is customers to show up every Thursday and eat.  If we had enough feedback (Participation Survey) and 25 Chiefs commit to dining for two every Thursday, we could request for a trial.

6.                            Another data point will be to set club hours after July!
